WAGNER: "Prelude und Liebestod" from Tristan und Isolde
LISZT: Piano Concerto No. 2
TCHAIKOVSKY: Francesca da Rimini
STRAVINSKY: Suite from The Firebird (1919)

About this Performance

This powerhouse program brings together some of the most dramatic and iconic works in the orchestral repertoire. Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde, a revolutionary moment in Western music history, unfolds in waves of yearning and release and is widely known from films such as Excalibur. One of today's most respected pianists, Yefim Bronfman brings electrifying and disciplined precision, making him the ideal artist for Liszt's Second Piano Concerto. Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini surges with passion and doom through sweeping melodies and relentless drive. The program culminates with Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, a brilliant distillation of the ballet's most vivid moments, famously featured in Disney's Fantasia.
